Staying in Cape Town for the Summer/Winter

I am traveling to South Africa for July and August and have many exciting plans to see the country. One idea I have is to stay longer in Cape Town and be less of a rushed tourist and use it more as a summer (northern hemisphere) home away from home. Assuming the water crisis had lifted a bit I am curious what people would recommend for me to do to feel more local? Are there volunteer opportunities or local clubs (hiking, running) that would welcome a visitor that’s around for a few months? I may have an opportunity to bring some of my work there to do, but I also want to meet people. Am open to any ideas.
