First day in CM- Self tour verses a taxi with guide

Hello all, We are visiting Chiang Mai this July. We will arrive in the morning 7:30-8 am by train and since the hotel check in is only at 2 pm, we are weighing in the pros and cons of hiring somebody to give us a feel of the old city. We plan to see the old moat and drive through it and see Wat chedi, Wat phra Singh, then drive through the flower markets and the Warrorat markets, have lunch and be back at the hotel. Do you all think it’s easy enough to do our own? Like get a taxi from the station, go to the hotel and put bags there and catch Tuks tuks as we go along? Would tuks tuks, taxis and song thaews would be in plenty? Also will 4 people fit in a tuk tuk ? Also we plan to visit the Doi suthep temple in the evening on the same day.

My question is if we are to hire some taxi and have it tailored to us like this, how much would this cost approximately and how much ball park would be to do it ourselves? What would be the advantage/ disadvantages of both? Even if we like to take the mass transport etc when we travel, since it’s the first day there, If there’s not much of a price difference we thought of hiring some service. We are a family of four with two teens if that matters, Thank you in advance for all your valuable input in planning our vacations as always.
