I read the sidebar and rules and was not able to find an
answer there, or any reason I cannot ask my question, so I am
hoping there is someone knowledgeable here that can help me
out.

I am applying for my first passport, and the main issue I am
having is find whether I can bring a photocopy of my birth
certificate or if it needs to be an official certified copy.

According to this source, it says that a photocopy will be
sufficient:

https://www.usps.com/international/passports.htm#first-time

This source says they will not accept a photocopy, only
accepting a certified copy:

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/requirements/citizenship-evidence.html

I have everything else done, I just don’t want to shop up to
the post office, wait in a long line, only to be told they
will not accept my photocopied birth certificate.

Thanks for your time/help!
