Anyone booked Splendor of Egypt with SmarTours 2017/2018?

We have a deposit on the above Cairo/Nile Cruise/Lexor tour for Feb 2018. SmarTours is just restarting their Egypt tours since they ceased touring there in 2011. They rates are great and the accommodations are 5* and look amazing. The only thing we’re wondering about is that the itinerary they’ve posted is fairly vague; it hits all the key sights, but does not say how much time you actually spend in each place.

If any TA peeps are booked on this tour before Feb 2018, I’d be very interested in your experience.

Tips-Joberg-Kruger-Knysna-Hermanus/Stellenbosch-CT Apr’18

This is going to be a rather long post but I would request and appreciate all the tips I can for the much dreamed South Africa trip. My husband and I have booked for beg April 2018 and our itinerary looks something like this-

30Th Mar- fly from singapore and arrive Joberg in the noon. Night stay in joberg

31st Mar- planning to rent a car and drive to Kruger. Q-drive is better or flying? We thought drive is cheaper plus the route is scenic and we can reach Kruger on time. I would need advice on which are the best rentals for self drive and can we leave the car at Kruger

I need major advice on where to stay in Kruger. I have looked up many lodges that are all inclusive but also exorbitant. I would prefer an all inclusive deal but not something which will cost my kidney. We are planning to spend 2 nights there. Pls advice on which all areas to look at- Kruger, Sabi Sands, Manyeleti?? names of resorts would be super helpful

2nd Apr- we plan to fly out of Hoedspruit to George. Our plan is spend next 2 days in Knysna.

Do give suggestions on what to do in Knysna, must gos etc.

on 4th we plan to drive to Hermanus and Stellenbosch. Which of the 2 should be our spot for spending the night. We would like to do a visit to the wineyards. Does that need to booked in advance? which one should be booked? Suggestions on places to stay in either of the places

5th Apr- we plan to arrive in Cape Town by noon and stay somewhere near V&A waterfront. We have 2.5 days in CT. I know its less but we are planning to pack in the Table Mountain, Robben Island exp. Do recommend beaches and other things to do. Also given that we have less days, should we do the tour to peninsula cape.

We are flying out on 8th Apr

Any suggestions, tips would be welcome. Thank you so much in advance

PS- I am a vegetarian. So any reco for a restaurant where we can catch a good veg meal at these locations will be heavenly 🙂

South Africa – West to East Coast in 2 weeks?

My girlfriend and I will be in SA for 2 weeks, arriving in Cape Town on 1st of March and leaving from Johannesburg on 18th March.

Our plan is to spend 3-4 days in Cape Town and then drive to the east coast as we will be going to Kruger national park in the last few days of our trip.

Considering the limited time we have, we are unsure whether to go for one of these 2 options:

1. Drive all the way to Kruger

2. Drive from Cape town to port Elizabeth from the 5th to 12th of March on the Garden route and then fly to Johannesburg from there. We can then get another car to go to Kruger from JNB airport.

We are unsure whether we would have the time to do option 1 , but if anyone of you thinks that we would miss out a lot for not driving from Port Elizabeth to Kruger then we might take this option.

Many thanks

Driving garden route or fly from Kruger to CT?

My son and I are planning to spend 5 nights in Kruger on a self drive next year July. I was planning to fly from Kruger to CT as we want to do the shark dive and then do sightseeing around CT.

Now , everyone is talking about the garden route. Mind you we live in the US and drove through the National Parks here and have seen a lot of amazing scenery both here and abroad. The question is : should we give up time in the Kruger or CT to drive the garden route ? And how long would it take from Kruger to CT ?
